The Old Farmyard
Located near Harrogate, no visit to Ripley is complete without sampling the delights of The Old Farmyard.
We keep magnificent Clydesdale heavy horses bred on the farm. These gentle giants are the Scottish equivalent of the English shire horse. Some of the horses work on the farm, and some are kept for breeding future show winners.
Hens and chickens roam freely in the farmyard, pigs and piglets can be seen in the pigsty.
There are serveral breeds of sheep on display including Jacobs, Welsh Mountain Badger Face, Kerry Hill, Coloured Ryelands, Texel & Suffolk Crossbreeds, Herdwicks along with lambs that can be bottle fed
The Birchwood Farm museum, within the farmyard contains various farming items from days gone by. Including dairy equipment, old farm tools, a stone grinding mill amp; household objects all collected by the Smith family that have had the farm in Ripley since 1865
Open by appointment only.
