Nidderdale is quite simply one of the most beautiful of the Yorkshire Dales. Wath-in-Nidderdale Is a Conservation Village and one of the most picturesque and unspoilt of the dale's villages. The Sportsman's Arms Hotel and Restaurant nestles close by the River Nidd at Wath, has fishing rights to a stretch of the river, and is located on the Nidderdale Way.

Reached by a pack-horse bridge, the mellow sandstone 17th century building radiates warmth and hospitality. Log fires, cosy lounges, a warm and welcoming bar and a charming restaurant await the fortunate traveller and guest alike

The Sportsman's is a restaurant with bedrooms. All the rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated (most en-suite) retaining many original features. "To get the best of the excellent cooking, you should really stay overnight and enjoy a good leisurely dinner" stated The Good Food Guide.

But you are also as welcome to call in to the open-fired bar for a refreshing drink or a freshly prepared meal. Working with the best local produce and ingredients - Nidderdale lamb, pork and beef; fresh Nidderdale trout and game from the moors (grouse, woodcock and pheasant in season) - the Sportsman's offers a wondrous feast to its diners. Fresh turbot, plaice, halibut plus lobster, crab and prawns are delivered daily from Whitby and the East Coast.

The calm, softly lit restaurant, dominated at one end by a Victorian sideboard and substantial wine rack, is open to residents and non-residents for dinner and traditional Sunday lunches. Booking is advised.

The wine list offers wide selection of styles and prices from traditional wine making areas plus some new and interesting examples. As well as fine vintage ports, brandies, and liqueurs, a special interest in whiskies is shown and some excellent champagnes are also available.

After an evening meal and restful sleep, guests can look forward to a morning walk by the River Nidd and a hearty breakfast, that will set you up for a busy or relaxing day!

A family business for 21 years, and listed in all the major food guides, the Sportsman's has a loyal clientele. It is also the oldest established outside caterers in the Dale, specialising in marquees for 80-200 people.
