Welcome to Nidderdale
Rightly
proud of its place within the Dales, Nidderdale is for many the
favourite Dale. It truly deserves its status as an Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its stunning moorland
scenery and tapestry of lush green meadows.
Bordered
by the Yorkshire Dales National Park and close to the World Heritage
Site of Fountains Abbey, Nidderdale is that unique blend of ingredients,
mixed in the right proportions and painted in the right colours – whatever
the season – that has had a timeless appeal to artists, photographers
and film makers. Its landscape has starred in such classics as ‘Wuthering
Heights’ and Mel Gibson’s ‘Fairy Tale – a True Story’.
The
River Nidd flows the length of the Dale from its origins on the
slopes of Great Whernside, through the splendidly engineered
Victorian Reservoirs of Angram and Scar House, to the tranquility
of the highly prized bird sanctuary at Gouthwaite.
Unspoilt
by its rich heritage, Nidderdale’s charm belies its proximity
to the vibrant city of Leeds, the cathedral cities of York and
Ripon, the genteel spa town of Harrogate and the bustling markets
of Skipton.
Nidderdale is joined to the wider community by excellent motorway and
rail connections, Leeds/Bradford airport, and the ferry port of Hull
with its links to Europe.
Nidderdale - naturally
a better place!
